CommonJS CommonJS, subpaths only — require("eslint-module-utils/…") works, require("eslint-module-utils") does not

eslint-module-utils exposes only subpaths in its exports map, for example "eslint-module-utils/hash"; there is no root entry, so require("eslint-module-utils") and import "eslint-module-utils" both throw ERR_PACKAGE_PATH_NOT_EXPORTED. The subpaths are CommonJS: require("eslint-module-utils/hash") works everywhere, and import "eslint-module-utils/hash" works through Node's CommonJS interop.

What to do

  1. Load subpaths, never the bare name: const eslintModuleUtils = require("eslint-module-utils/hash"). require("eslint-module-utils") throws ERR_PACKAGE_PATH_NOT_EXPORTED.
  2. From ES modules use the default import: import eslintModuleUtils from "eslint-module-utils/hash"; then destructure. Named imports only work when Node.js can statically detect the exports.
  3. TypeScript: no types are available for eslint-module-utils; declare the module yourself if you need them.
